Definition of Precipitation:

  • the falling to earth of any form of water.

The Water Cycle:

The earth has a limited amount of water, and that water keeps going around and around
in what we call the "water cycle". The cycle is made up of 4 main parts, which are evaporation,
condensation, precipitation, and collection. Precipitation occurs when so much water has condensed
that the air cannot hold it in anymore. The clouds get heavy and the water falls back to the earth in the
form of rain, hail, sleet, or snow, etc.

Snow (facts):

  • snow falling has different names depending on how much and time of the snow falling,
some of the include: flurries, snow shower, snow squalls, blizzards, sleet, and freezing rain.
Most hail storms do not last any longer then 15 minutes.

A) Flurries-
  • when snow falls lightly for a short amount of time
  • they usually just coat the ground, but it does not accumulate to any amount
B) Snow Showers-
  • when snow falls for a short period of time
  • they can have snow falling from light to heavy, and a light coating to a few in. accumulating
C) Snow Squalls-
  • short but heavy bursts of snow
  • has very gusty winds, and a great deal of snow can pile up on the ground in that short amount
of time
D) Blizzards-
  • snow storms that have 35 mph winds and very little visability with blowing snow
E) Sleet-
  • water that falls from the clouds but turns to ice before it hits the ground
F) Freezing Rain-
  • water that falls as rain from the clouds but falls on the surface with a temperature below
freezing like the roads, trees, and even cars.
  • it can take down power lines, and cause roads to become dangerous to drive on.

Self Reflection:
We learned about how precipitation forms, and the steps of the water cycle. We thought it was very interesting
and very fun to learn about something that we didn't know about before. These things go on everyday of our lives we
just don't realize it.This wiki space was better and easier than the first one. We had more time and we got to work in groups.
The next time we do this we would like to work a little harder but not to fast to make it sloppy. For the most part this project was very
fun and interesting.Thank you for taking the time to look at our page. =] =] =]
